Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas, on April 29, 1933 (his birth was officially recorded on April 30).
Raised by his grandparents, he developed an early love of music playing guitar, working on local radio and making early recordings that laid the groundwork for his long career.
A songwriter and performer, Nelson began writing songs for others in the 50s and released his first records in the early 60s.
He was the leading voice of the “outlaw” country movement, rebelling against Nashville conventions. Landmark albums such as Shotgun Willie , Red Headed Stranger and Stardust reinforced his reputation and style in country, jazz, folk and pop sensibilities.
Nelson has been prolific recording artist, releasing hundreds of albums and playing thousands of shows. He collaborated with stars . We can cite: Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson (notably with The Highwaymen) and has collected many awards, including Grammys
Nelson is known for activism: he co-founded Farm Aid in 1985 to support family farmers, His public image bandana, long braids and trusty guitar “Trigger” is instantly recognizable.
